While the world waits a ridiculous amount of time for a brand new Grand Theft Auto (11 years and counting!), we’re here to announce that the wait is coming to a merciful close. That’s not due to Rockstar putting its foot on the gas though. No, it’s thanks to OMERTA, the upcoming open world crime simulator that features GTA and Saints Row-style gameplay, without any of the waiting.

OMERTA draws from the likes of GTA and Saints Row to bring you one of the biggest open world crime simulators yet. It’s not even just games that it takes its inspiration from: the team behind the game has performed extensive research into real-life cartels and the mafia to bring an authentic crime experience along with some unique supernatural and science-fiction twists. So if your interest in crime drama extends beyond just games, you’ll find plenty to love here.

If you’ve played any of the games it takes its cues from though, you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. It all starts with a single player story mode that sees you step into the role of a henchman, who has to complete missions in order to take over the cartel. Along the way you’ll meet a variety of unique characters and, more importantly, explore where it all takes place.

Brookton: The Crime-Infested Megalopolis of OMERTA Game

Brookton is absolutely massive and riddled with crime. What do you expect when five different cartels operate in a single location? Each has its own personality, as well as specialities, favoured businesses, and appearance. There’s the OMERTA, Full Metal, Menagerie, Coven, and Silk Route. You can check them out in the OMERTA Whitepaper, and see if you can figure out what inspired them.

When not participating in story missions or generally making a fool of yourself, you can freely explore the city hoovering up rewards. That includes guns, equipment, drugs, and even arcane artefacts. The best part? You can take all of this with you into the online component too, where even more rewards lurk for those willing to put the time in to find them.

Because yes – OMERTA has its own GTA Online, which is where the vast majority of you will probably spend the most of your time. There’s just so much to do, and you can do it all with your friends – or your enemies. Like playing alongside friends? Participate in PvE activities then. Or, if you want to duke it out with your enemies, simply head into a PvP format. There’s something here for everyone, no matter how you like to play.

It Features Minigames Aplenty

There are a ton of minigames or side quests to participate in, including street races, bounty hunting, cartel feuds, sabotage, and underground fight clubs. Then there’s the other side of the game, which is a lot more creative. You can take part in drug trials, perform arcane rituals, go hunting for abominable creatures or accompany a unique character (Urban Myth Joe) in uncovering conspiracy theories. There’s a lot going on in OMERTA, and it’s safe to say that you won’t find much of it in GTA or Saints Row.

Of course, you will spend most of your time competing with other players for ownership over Brookton’s various businesses. That’s how you progress in the game, by earning passive income that you spend on better gear. In fact, this side of the game draws a lot of inspiration from the Mafia games, rather than GTA. It even expands on them by providing you more opportunity to organise your cartel, own and manage businesses, and even perform some diplomacy when it all goes wrong.

The GTA Gameplay is Enormously Expanded

In terms of gameplay, you can use stealth to sneak into their base and steal stuff, or just sabotage their businesses to weaken them. So while it clearly draws a lot of inspiration from GTA, it expands on the formula in a number of key ways. Critically, it puts you in the shoes of a cartel or mafia member.

But let’s get on with the most exciting feature of OMERTA: earning genuine, real-life cash in the form of its native OMERTA tokens (ticker to be announced in the future) just by playing. Sure, it’s fine to play a game just to kick back and have some fun, but it would be nice if all of those hours you put in resulted in a bit of cash in your pocket. The OMERTA game understands that and rewards you in OMERTA tokens for playing it.

That’s thanks to its Blockchain and NFT integration, which sees you buying a ‘stake’ in an in-game business. Then, every time a player interacts with your business – be it a casino, car dealership, night club or brothel, etc – you earn passive income. That adds a ton of realism to the game, which makes it feel a heck of a lot more like real-life crime. You truly own these parts of the game, because that’s how NFTs work. Like physical goods, there are only a finite number of them.

It’s not just businesses you can own, either. If you, say, develop your own weapon, technology, or earn a reward specific to a single cartel, that’s yours. Same with rare items that you can acquire, or, err, steal. Many of these in-game items are NFTs, so they’re unique to you and your own character.

Get Involved Now to Get a Headstart

If you’re interested in playing OMERTA, now is the best time to get involved too. Though the game is a few months out, the team behind OMERTA is holding an ‘Airdrop’ event, which will distribute FREE OMERTA tokens among the earliest participants (or “Made Men” in Mafia terms) in the OMERTA ecosystem.

To book your spot in the OMERTA Airdrop, simply sign up and complete missions by following OMERTA game on X, YouTube, Medium, Instagram, Reddit and Discord. You’ll also have to refer a friend to confirm your participation.

Note: The first 10,000 participants that get involved will even earn a boosted token allocation, so you should try and act quick. Simply visit the official OMERTA site right now and sign up to start completing missions.
