During Sony’s PS4 era, one of the most anticipated games for the platform was Ready At Dawn‘s third-person shooter The Order 1886. Flaunting gorgeous graphics and an interesting horror setting, it caught the eye of many PlayStation players. Unfortunately, it didn’t do as well as many hoped, leading the hopeful franchise to an untimely end. In a recent interview with MinnMax, the studio’s co-founder Andrea Pessino discussed the trials and tribulations of the game’s development and launch, as well as the reasoning for never releasing a sequel.
Ready At Dawn co-founder says The Order 1886 sequel would have been greenlit if reception was better
During the interview, MinnMax’s Ben Hanson asks if this was Ready At Dawn’s most important game in the studio’s history. Pessino is very hesitant to give a definitive yes or no answer.
“I don’t know. I don’t know if it’s the [most important] one,” says Pessino. “It’s only perceived that way because it has been a decade and for all the stuff that was written and said. Man, people are still talking about it, so . . . it was an incredible challenge.”
Ready At Dawn did pitch a The Order 1886 sequel to Sony. As we know, it never was greenlit. However, Pessino believed if the game’s critical reception was just slightly higher, a second entry would have been made.
“I don’t think it was the sales, I think it was the critical reception,” says Pessino. “That’s the thing; Sony is a very proud group and rightfully so. And the critical reception, if it had even been just in the 70s, we would have had the sequel. I’m convinced. Just a few points more and it would have been OK.”
