Severance Season 2 now officially has a release date and a trailer, which means Apple TV+ subscribers will have more of the series to enjoy come January. But even if you don’t have Apple TV+, you can now see what all the fuss is about, thanks to the show’s first season finally releasing on Blu-ray. Severance Season 1 is now available for preorder at Amazon, and it has a pretty nice discount to boot.

Severance was GameSpot’s pick for the best TV show of 2022. The sci-fi series is set in the near future where technological advancements allow people to “sever” the memories of their work life from their personal life. The benefit for people who undergo the procedure is that they live their lives without ever remembering working (or other unpleasant things, as the show slowly begins to reveal). But in practice, this means that severed people are effectively two people–they’re one person in regular life, an “outie,” and a second person, or “innie,” at work, because the work version of them never experiences anything but work. It’s like falling asleep the second you step out of the office and waking up the second you step back in.

Across the nine-episode first season, that leads to some pretty spooky and dystopian situations, sprinkled with a lot of corporate culture satire. Severance is both funny and creepy in equal measure, and that’s a lot of what makes it so good.

Apple TV+ shows rarely get Blu-ray releases, especially in the US. Its breakout hit Ted Lasso is available on Blu-ray, with the complete series–Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way–available on Amazon. Other hits, like For All Mankind, See, The Morning Show, and Truth Be Told, have made their way to physical media, but only in the UK. So if you’re a fan of Severance, you might want to take advantage of the physical release in case, like content on other platforms, it one day disappears from Apple’s streaming service.
