As Sony took to social media to post about its PlayStation 30th Anniversary plans, some keen-eyed social media users spotted a faint image in the background of one of the promotional materials that looked like the PS5 Pro’s design. Although Sony has not officially confirmed when the PS5 Pro console will launch, screenshots taken from the materials have led to speculation and hype around Sony’s next moves.
The 30th Anniversary of the PlayStation brand will have special events and content throughout the rest of 2024. With the highly-anticipated Astro Bot touted as a love letter to the consoles, characters, and moments that have stood out since the original PlayStation console’s 1994 launch, PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary will be a significant occasion for the entire gaming industry. As part of the celebrations, a free trial version of Gran Turismo 7 and a new board game line called “Shapes of Play” will be available during the holiday season. In addition, a selection of soundtracks from Unit 13, Starhawk, Twisted Metal, and the God of War series will be available from October through January on Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Spotify.
Though all rumors must be taken with a fine grain of salt, Sony may have slyly given keen-eyed gamers a taste of what’s coming next. According to Wario64 on Twitter, various PlayStation fans pointed out that the PlayStation 30th Anniversary wallpaper that was posted on social media contained various controllers, consoles, and peripherals that Sony has used throughout various PlayStation generations. In between the PlayStation logo and the number three in the 30th Anniversary text, users claimed that a console design with three lines in the upper middle matches previous leaks about the PS5 Pro’s appearance. Wario64 compared the apparent PS5 Pro design to the design of the current PS5 model, which has a single dividing line between the top and bottom halves of the unit.

Although Sony has not officially confirmed when the PS5 Pro will be released, other leaks have indicated that the upcoming console from Sony may be announced sooner rather than later. According to known industry insider Lunatic Ignus, both the PS5 Pro’s official reveal and a potential State of Play presentation would take place throughout September at different intervals, with September 10 or 11 being a potential window for the PS5 Pro.
Between PlayStation’s 30th anniversary plans and imminent news about the PS5 Pro, gamers may soon find out what Sony’s immediate future will look like. It remains to be seen if the latest rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro’s launch prove true.
