Monster Hunter Wilds Weapon Tier List
Whilst subjective, these are our top picks (and least favourite picks) in Monster Hunter Wilds.
S Tier
- Bow
- Mid-range weapon that means you can stay away from the heat of battle, but not wander too far
- A high mobility due to the usage of a bow and arrows rather than a heavy-duty weapon
- You can charge the arrows to increase the damage dealt to enemies
- Use Tracers when attacking enemies means your arrows will follow their location
- Tracers then explode to deal additional damage
- When using a bow, you cannot guard
- Hammer
- Grants you high mobility and decent high-impact damage
- Charge attacks up to boost the damage
- You have a chance to stun enemies with the hammer if you manage to hit them on their head multiple times
- You cannot guard with a hammer
- Light Bowgun
- Works at mid-range during battle
- Utilises a variety of ammo types
- Grants high mobility with quick attacks
- You can dodge oncoming attacks easily
- Rapid Fire Energy allows you to shoot with speed
- This Energy replenishes after a duration as long as you perform successful attacks
- Light Bowgun users cannot guard
A Tier
- Long Sword
- Great at high agility movements and dealing damage with combos
- Useful when performing counterattacks
- Features a Spirit Gauge that increases when successfully performing certain attacks
- When the Spirit Gauge is red, certain attacks gain a buff
- Long Sword users cannot guard
- Dual Blades
- Strike enemies with two identical blades
- Features Demon Mode, which buffs the overall damage of your attacks
- Features Archdemon Mode buffs the damage even more
- Dual Blade users cannot guard
- Hunting Horn
- Plays melodies that grant you buffs
- Summon Echo Bubbles onto the battlefield to create areas of effect
- Melody buffs yourself and your allies
- Hunting Horn users cannot guard
- Gunlance
- High range
- Shoot out shells that explode
- Allows you to sidestep across the battlefield as you aim down the enemy
- You can guard with a Gunlance
- Charge Blade
- Has 2 modes
- Sword Mode increases your speed and grants you higher agility
- Charged Phials in Sword Mode buff Axe Mode
- Axe Mode increases the damage you deal with strong attacks
- Charged Phials power up the weapon in various ways
- Heavy Bowgun
- A long range bow!
- Features Auto Guard, but you can also choose to guard during battle the normal way too
- Ignition Mode spends Energy, which allows you to shoot special ammo
B Tier
- Great Sword
- Due to the Great Sword being a heavy weapon, your speed when it comes to overall movement and attacks is slower
- The damage dealt when using the Great Sword is high
- You can guard with a Great Sword
- Sword and Shield
- Quick attacks and overall movement
- The shield can be used to guard from oncoming attacks, and also to strike enemies
- Even if your weapon is out, you can still use certain items
- Switch Axe
- This axe switches between 2 modes
- Axe Mode works best at range due to it being able to reach enemies from afar
- Sword Mode increases your attack speed
- You cannot guard with the Switch Axe
- Insect Glaive
- Control a Kinsect whilst using the Insect Glaive
- Harvest extracts from enemies to obtain buffs
- You can jump into the air to perform aerial attacks
- You cannot guard with an Insect Glaive
C Tier
- Lance
- High defense
- Perform fast attacks with high agility
- You can use the Lance itself to guard from oncoming attacks and perform counterattacks
