Baldur’s Gate 3 is a massive game, with a story spanning three huge acts, and an innumerable amount of decisions for you to partake in along the way. When you leave Act 1, you’re greeted with the area surrounding Moonrise Towers, and there’s quite a few things for you to do there. One of the things you might encounter when you get there is the Gauntlet of Shar. This area serves a big part in Shadowheart’s story in Baldur’s Gate 3, and can even end with you having one less party member if you’re not careful. When you’re inside the Gauntlet of Shar, you have to partake in a few different trials for you to be able to proceed. One of these trials is the Self-Same Trial, which pits you against yourselves. Here’s our guide on how to complete the Self-Same Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to complete the Self-Same Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3
The Self-Same Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3 is actually pretty simple, as you only need to win a fight to get through it. But it can be a bit tricky depending on who you bring and your own weaknesses. Upon entering the room, you’re greeted to a check to see if you can clock the fact that you’re about to walk into an ambush, after this, you should be able to start planning out your first move. My character is a Rogue, meaning my first attack was always going to be a sneak attack on the first person I could gain advantage on.
After you land the first attack in the Self-Same Trial, it’s just a normal Baldur’s Gate 3 fight against a mirror match of your party. This means you should know all of their weaknesses, but also all of their strengths. For myself, the biggest hurdle I had to overcome was invisibility. Which meant I had to take way longer completing the fight as I needed to wait for my enemy to not be invisible before I could attack them.
If you want to be smarter than me however, there are ways to get around invisibility. One of these is the obvious ‘See Invisibility’ spell, or doing experiments with Volo, but there are also other more hidden ways of seeing through invisibility. The way I like to see through invisibility in the Self-Same Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to throw water at where an enemy is standing. That’s right, if you throw water at where they’re standing, you can knock them out of invisibility.
