For a quick walkthrough on how to start the car, welcome to our A Long Road guide! It’s great for beginners and helps you to learn the basics.

Time for a brand-new road trip in A Long Road! You may have already played A Dusty Trip, but if not, we have a guide on A Dusty Trip Dog Tags that teaches you where to find each one for General Shepherd’s quest.

A Long Road Guide

A Long Road is just like A Dusty Trip, which is just like The Long Drive on Steam!

Starting the Car

Hop into the car with the E key and sit in front of the steering wheel. Release the handbrake with F and then press the R key on your keyboard to rev the engine up (or turn it off). At this point, your car should be ready to move, which you can do so by using WASD. By now, you’ll be on the road, driving along merrily. You can even adjust the front view mirror to check what’s behind you!

To stop the car, use F to pull the handbrake up again and hit R to stop the engine. Turn your camera to the window and press E to exit the car. You should only do this when you find a building to scavenge or you need to refuel the car.

Building the Car

Pay attention to the list on the wall, as this lets you know which items you need to find around the garage. The list goes as follows:

  • 4 Wheels
  • 1 Engine
  • 1 Radiator
  • 1 Battery
  • 4 Doors
  • Fuel

The tyres for the car are directly next to the big table, so they’re easy enough to find. Pick up each wheel one at a time and place them onto the car. Use the F key to pick objects up and then the Z key to attach them in place. You then need to press the F key again to slot the part in.

The engine is on the table, so all you have to do is pick that up as usual using the controls mentioned above. It goes into the front of the car, where the bonnet is, and needs oil to work. The battery is underneath the table, and it goes in the same place as the engine. Make sure they’re next to each other, rather than on top.

Next up is the radiator. Place it in the same area as the engine and the battery. Keep in mind that this part requires water to work! Doors are optional, but the car does look a little weird if you choose to not have any. Headlights aren’t on the list, but if you plan to drive at night, you’ll need those.

Fuelling the Car

Now for the fuel! The red cans hold the fuel, so pick them up. I recommend using around 2 of them to fill the car up to its maximum limit. Just look for the gas filler on the side of the car where the doors are leaning against the wall.

Open the cap on the car, pick up the fuel, and use the left-click on your mouse to fill it up. As you do this, there is a counter at the side that tells you how many litres of fuel are in the car, and how much gas it has.
