While many players have become accustomed to the expansive and immersive RPGs today, whole generations haven’t experience the genre’s roots. Now, developer Digital Eclipse has announced that the long wait for an official 3D Remake of the original Wizardy is over, with Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.
While the title originally released in the 1980s on one of the early iterations of the Apple computer, the developer has reimagined the classic game with new visuals. Players will be able to craft their own party of adventurers before moving into the dungeon gameplay that made this title famous. Wizardry: Proving Ground couldn’t be more faithful, as it’s been built on top of the code of the original title.
Since the title is in early access, that likely means that Digital Eclipse wants to take the time to work on Wizardry: Proving Ground and ensure that the players are happy with the recreation. It will also help fund the development of a 40 year old game and help put it in front of more fresh eyes.
